Little Miss Hydrangea Contest
Rules and code of conduct:
1. It is understood that all contestants and those chosen as the Royal Party are acting as representatives of the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Association, the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival, and its organizers.
2. All media and public appearances on behalf of the above named groups are to be in goodwill and reflect the goals and purposes of these groups.
3. The Royal Party shall be supervised by a chaperon, appointed by the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival steering committee and the Little Miss Hydrangea Contest Coordinator, whom may act as the appointed chaperon or representative of that position.
4. It is agreed that, for the protection of the contestants and chosen Royal Party, all full names of the girls will not be made public knowledge or referred to in the media. They will be referred to on a first name basis only and given privacy until their reigning year is completed.
5. All contact with the media or other public appearances shall be referred to the Little Miss Hydrangea Contest Coordinator, Julia Poole. Please do not communicate or discuss any formal public relations or advertising agreements or contracts without the full consent of the Little Miss Hydrangea Contest coordinator and/ or the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival steering committee and its organizers.
6. No monetary reimbursement shall be expected in exchange for media or other public appearances unless negotiated through the Little Miss Hydrangea Contest coordinator and/ or the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival steering committee and its organizers. There will be occasions where personal appearances on behalf of the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival may include a service fee paid to the Association. This will help cover the cost of transportation and expenses incurred as a result of the public appearance and service rendered. If there is a paid commercial or other formal contract between the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival Association and The Little Miss Hydrangea Royal Party, a formal contract will be made and parental consent required before entering into such a contract. Reimbursement may be given in the form of an educational scholarship, established on the girls' behalf and presented at the commencement of their reigning year.
7. If the current Little Miss Hydrangea Queen is unable to attend a formal engagement, the coordinator will appoint one of the reigning Princesses to act on her behalf. If the current Royal Party is not able to attend a formal function on the behalf of the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival Association, the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival steering committee may appoint a replacement.
8. If for any reason, the conduct or behavior of a Royal Party member is deemed inappropriate or misrepresentative of the goals and mission statement of the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Association and its organizers, they will be removed from their duties as ambassadors for the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Association. They will not continue to be recognized as a Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival Queen or Princess and not be given any further privileges as a Royal Party member.
9. We, as the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival steering committee and organizers, have established this contest and the duties of the Royal party as a privilege and honour, uplifting the qualities and enthusiasm youth can give towards the establishment of the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival as a Canadian tradition. We also look to the establishment of the involvement of other young people in Surrey and the continued involvement of all the contestants and their families in many Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival activities in the future.
10. All contestants have signed and agreed to the Indemnity Agreement, paid a $25 entry fee, and will hereby follow the rules and code of conduct as stated in the above list.
