Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival in Year 2000

During the spring, it was decided the Hydrangea Festival should move into the center of Surrey, into the district of Cloverdale, B.C. Surrey is one of the fastest growing major cities in Canada, with a population of 350,000. Six areas or districts make up the city of Surrey, with Cloverdale being the centerpiece of Surrey's historic sites and agri-tourism. Cloverdale invited the Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival to bring the Floral Parade and Hydrangea Festival into it's festivities and into the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition grounds for the festival.

The "City of Parks" has 3000 acres of parkland, along with 35% of it's land being kept as agricultural. Three major rivers and beautiful beaches along the Pacific Ocean thrive in Surrey. Located beside the USA and Canada borders, Surrey is the first city greeting international travellers by land, as they head for all of Greater Vancouver's beautiful cities. The Surrey Hydrangea Blossom Festival is growing, and planning to celebrate Surrey as "The Hydrangea Blossom Capitol of the World."

A wonderful floral parade and festival took place at Cloverdale's Millennium Amphitheatre Park, in the Cloverdale Rodeo Grounds, in late August 2000. Live entertainment, childrens' rides and activities, floral floats and vehicles decked in flowers went on show for the day. Approximately 30 booths and activities took place, with artists, crafts, non-profit groups, professional clown shows by Cup Cake, and group, helped everyone to have a spectacular, good weather time.

The Hydrangea Festival Association also took part in other activities such as parades, farms, and marketing fairs in Mt. Vernon, at the Skagit Tulip Festival; a South Surrey Fair; Environmental Extravaganzas; Surrey's Park Appreciation Day; Bear Creek Park's Salmon Celebrations Day; Portland, Oregon's Grand Floral Parade with floral float decorating; Canada Day's Parade in North Vancouver, and Surrey's month long Christmas celebrations, with the "Parade of Lights."
